Looks like some kind of thrasher, but the bill is a bit too long for a brown thrasher, and it's too far east for the others. Could it be a vagrant from the Caribbean?
Well, the bird looks like a standard Brown Thrasher, except for (obviously) the bill. Several people (including Bill Pranty) have expressed the opinion that this bird is simply a Brown Thrasher with a "deformed" bill, which makes sense, although the bill length sure is an "odd" deformity. (Not that deformities are ever "normal"...they wouldn't be deformities if they were!!!)
I wonder if there is any evidence of hybridization in thrashers...

Thrasher with an unusually long bill is my guess, too. Very strange.
ReplyDeleteI needed some help with this one, so I checked with Mr. Guppy. He says it is definitely an Ivory Billed Woodpecker. He also got a photograph of it.
