SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- Oprah Winfrey's private jet was forced to return to the city airport after its windshield was cracked in a collision with a bird, officials said. Winfrey and her boyfriend, Stedman Graham, were not hurt in the incident, which occurred around 12:30 p.m. Monday just after the GulfStream jet had taken off from Santa Barbara Municipal Airport, said Santa Barbara Fire Department spokesman John Ahlman. "This is not a totally unusual thing," Ahlman said of the cracked windshield. "We see these things pretty frequently." The plane will remain grounded until its windshield can be repaired, Ahlman said. Winfrey bought a mansion on 42 acres of land in the hills of nearby Montecito five years ago. The host of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" has won several Emmys and other awards for her work on daytime television.

You are so excitable. Do you believe everything you read? It wasn't a bird, it was "poor maintenance".
Congratulations on your CBC Vesper Sparrow. You will be missed on the Lake Cal CBC - I will be curiously awaiting your full report on the Pasco County CBC.

Dear BINAC:
Maybe she threw a shoe at Stedman?
Anyway - You will LOVE this story re: the Lake Cal CBC... 1st of all, we should change the name, as we couldnt get anywhere NEAR Lake Cal!!! New fencing around Medusa precluded entry. And we got KICKED OUT of the Dolton dump by a really mean woman (dispatched by her boss, who saw us walking toward the river). I didnt get a chance to scan the gulls, but Walter picked out an imm Thayers gull before we were escorted back to the street. So birders were deemed a threat to garbage this weekend!
We had light rain for the first few hrs of the count, temps just above freezing, and it was dismal the entire day. We only had 38 species. We missed American Robin, DC cormorant and mute swan!!! No shrike. John would have found one.
On a + note- A cop from the water reclamation dist. came to find out what we were up to, and he was NICE! (So nice, we asked if he would let us into the sludge pits, but he didnt have that authority). He DID, however, arrange entry into O'Brien L&D bathrooms! For which I was VERY grateful!! Lake Cal birding sure has changed....
So... I want the full report on W. Pasco County, my "out of state" birding county. Jill
